Aveley 6 Romford 1
The crowd at Chafford School were treated to a goal fest in the first half and a damp window cloth for the second half.
Against a hurricane of a wind Aveley sped into a 3-0 comfortable lead. However, against the run of play Romford profited from an own goal a la Arsenal style. This spurred Aveley on to finish the half 5-1 up.
The crowd at halftime were having a sweepstake on how many goals there would be in the second half especially as the last time they met it was 10-2 to Aveley. Romford came out the blocks with fire in their belly. Whilst not threatening the Aveley goal they did close down and seem to win most 50-50 balls. With two minutes left on the clock it looked like the ‘goalless selection’ would win the sweepstake but up stepped captain marvel Josh Perry for Aveley to complete his hattrick with a long range (slightly deflected!) free kick.
The final whistle was met with relief as it was a truly awful second half and we all reflected that this must be what it is like at Upton Park every week!!
